New Technologies

National Laser Institute trains our students on both industry standard medical aesthetic devices and new emerging technologies. Our graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings using lasers, intense pulse light devices, radio frequency and other new equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers.
The Laser and Medical Aeshetics is an exciting marketplace with a constant evolution of new and innovative antiaging technologies and procedures. The industry has advanced from core treatments such as Laser Hair Removal and Photofacials to many newer modalities. Below are some highlights of new technologies we teach about in our courses offered at National Laser Institute.

Fractional Wrinkle Reduction

The grandfather of this sector is a Laser called the “Fraxel” which was the pioneer of this procedure. Since the invention of the Fraxel Laser most major equipment manufactures have come out with incredibly similar equipment (and claims of superior results) called Fractional.

This Laser technology is by far the most talked about one in the country right now. The procedures improve your skin by targeting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of tiny microscopic laser spots.
The Fractional Laser Hand-piece delivers light in an array of high precision microbeams. These microbeams create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation that penetrate well below the epidermis and into the dermis, while sparing the tissue surrounding the columns from damage.

The coagulated tissue within the columns initiates a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue. Coagulated cellular debris is expelled as the skin is resurfaced.

Throughout the process, the integrity of the stratum corneum is maintained, which protects the tissue from infection as it heals. The result: faster dermal remodeling and skin resurfacing.

This procedure accelerates the production of collagen and new healthy skin cells. For the tissue it does not affect, it allows the skin to heal much faster then if the entire area was treated at once. Most people receive up to 5 sessions approximately 4 weeks apart.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Thanks to recent innovations in laser technology, tattoo removal is faster, more comfortable and affordable! NLI is excited to offer the latest tattoo removal technology. Treating tattoos twice as fast and twice as comfortably as previous generation technology, this equipment takes tattoo removal to a whole new experience. Our short-pulsed lasers emit a focused beam of light over the tattoo, causing the tattoo ink to absorb the lights. Once this has occurred, the pigment colors of the tattoo begin to vaporize allowing the tattoo to gradually disappear. Patients are thrilled with our advanced laser tattoo removal technology because we can remove tattoos faster and with less pain. Previous generation technology broke the top layer of the skin, which resulted in slow-to-heal, painful scarring and open wounds. The newest technology targets the ink directly instead and explodes the cell, stimulating the ink to fade away, and avoiding the need for scarring, wounds, pain, and downtime. In addition, previous generation equipment treated only a limited amount of colors. Our clients prefer our technology because it uses multiple wavelengths, allowing us to treat more colors and remove more kinds of tattoos.

Radiofrequency Skin Tightening

The consumer is seeking non-invasive, no downtime procedures to lessen wrinkles and tighten the skin without having to go under the knife for plastic surgery. Radiofrequency sends heat into the dermal layer of skin while the epidermis remains protected and result is plumping of skin to improve tightness of skin, wrinkles and fine lines. Crows feet, lines above the lips from smoking and other facial lines and wrinkles are all treated using this methodology. This course is taught with new radiofrequency technology specifically designed for wrinkle reduction. Radiofrequency skin tightening procedures was featured on the Oprah show.

Laser Celluilte Reduciton

Between 85% and 98% of post-pubescent females display some degree of cellulite. Cellulite is not related to being overweight; average and underweight people also get cellulite. Cellulite describes dimpling of skin, caused by the protrusion of subcutaneous fat into the dermis creating an undulating dermal-subcutaneous fat junction adipose tissue. Descriptive names for cellulite include orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, the mattress phenomenon, and hail damage. The Cellulite Workstation at NLI is the only over-the-counter laser cleared for the temporary reduction of cellulite. Tri-Active Laser systems, originally developed by laser scientists in Italy, are in use all over the world. TriActive uses an innovative and painless treatment suitable for all body and skin types. The Triple Action treatment is designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite through the combined action of mechanical massage, localized cooling and deep laser stimulation. Six diode lasers penetrate tissue to stimulate fibroblasts for collagen  production—yielding smoother, healthier-looking skin. A comfortable mechanical massage/rhythmic aspiration distends the skin in various directions to enhance microcirculation—thereby increasing skin elasticity and improving lymphatic drainage.

Microcurrents

Microcurrents aid in diminishing the signs of aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This system uses muscle re-education to stimulate and tone as well as to increase the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin resulting in a more youthful, beautiful you.

Microcurrent is a low level of electricity that mirror's the body's own natural electrical currents, triggering chemical reactions at a cellular level to enhance the production of natural collagen and elastin, provide circulatory benefits, and assist in product penetration (iontophoresis). The result is immediate firming, smoothing, and re-hydration of the skin while greatly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Using microcurrent in this way is really a byproduct of its conventional function, which is healing and pain relief. It has been used extensively in sports medicine - perhaps the first heavily publicized occasion was in 1988 when it was employed to help heal Magic Johnson. Veterinarians use it to accelerate healing of wounds, joint injuries and strained tendons in racehorses, as do therapists for humans.

The benefits are cumulative and typically are performed in a series to gain maximum results. The average series consists of 6 to 12 sessions administered two times weekly.

Laser Acne Reduction

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects more than 80 percent of the world’s population.
Acne treatment is the most rapidly growing therapeutic category in the dermatology sector and in the US alone. More than $1.4 billion annually is spent on anti-acne medication and treatment.

The Laser Acne hand piece offers a long-term acne solution by treating the root cause of acne, which is the sebaceous glands. This emits pulses of intense light that alter the structure and function of the sebaceous glands to reduce acne lesions without the many side effects common to drugs.

The Laser Technology employs a broad spectrum of light to attack acne on two fronts. The  short wavelength is ideal for absorption by porphyrins; this destroys p. acnes  bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts. The  longer wavelength penetrates deeper into the hyperactive sebaceous glands and  slows down their metabolism to prevent future acne from forming.

The FDA has approved the device we use for the  treatment of mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris. This particular technology has demonstrated a longer remission time and better efficacy than conventional  treatment methods.
