Dr. Sasha Jazayeri

Dermatologist Choice, Dr. Sasha Jazayeri brings a wealth of Dermatological expertise to Physicians Skin Institute. In 1994, Dr. Jazayeri earned his B.S. in Biology from University of California, San Diego and in 1999 his M.D. from Saint George's University School of Medicine. He earned a Residency in Family Medicine in 2002 and later his Fellowship in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery from San Diego, California's Advanced Dermatology and Laser Center. Dr Jazayeri serves as a Medical Director for National Laser Institute and Physicians Skin Institute.

Dr. Jazayeri has conducted several notable clinical studies, including advanced research on Rosacea. Dr. Jazayeri has volunteered his services with the Red Cross, providing free medical services in a Guadalajara, Mexico clinic. Currently, Dr. Jazayeri provides complimentary Skin Cancer Screenings for Scottsdale Health Systems in Scottsdale, Arizona and serves as a Dermatologist at Alliance Dermatology and Moh's Surgery Center in Phoenix, Arizona, specializing in cosmetic procedures and surgery for skin cancer.

Dr. Betty Davis

Dr. Betty Davis offers a wealth of practical knowledge and research experience as the head instructor of National Laser Institute’s continuing education courses.  Dr. Davis is a Board Certified Dermatologist who specializes in Cosmetic Dermatology and MOHs Surgery for Skin Cancer.  She currently practices at Arizona Medical Clinic in Sun City.  Dr. Davis completed the Mohs and Procedural Dermatology Fellowship with Dr. Gary D. Monheit and Dr. Christopher B. Harmon in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a member of the American College of MOHs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology; The American Medical Association; The Arizona Medical Association; The American Society for Dermatological Surgery and is a Fellow of The American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Davis also formerly served as Chief Resident of Dermatology in Colombia, Missouri and was awarded the most outstanding student and seminar in plastic surgery. 

Dr. Jeanette Jacknin

Dr. Jeanette Jacknin is a well-respected Dermatologist, author and clinical skin care expert. In 1983 Dr. Jacknin received her medical degree from Medical College of Virginia where she remained to complete her Dermatology Residency and later serve as their Chief Resident. Dr. Jacknin is Arizona Board and Licensed and has served as a consultant to the Department of Dermatology at Maricopa County Hospital.

Dr. Jacknin is among the country’s top clinical experts in both conventional and alternative skin care therapies and cosmetic Dermatology. In 2001 she wrote the first and only comprehensive book on conventional and alternative skin care therapies for best-selling publisher, Penguin Putnam titled Smart Medicine for Your Skin. Dr. Sonja Pettersen

Sonja Pettersen N.M.D. is licensed in Arizona to practice primary care medicine specializing in natural therapeutics. She received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, OR in 1998 and completed a year of residency in 1999 at the same college. She is currently certified in the aesthetic arts of Laser hair removal and Botox injections. Dr Pettersen is one of the medical directors at Physician’s Skin Institute and a Laser Instructor at National Laser. Dr. Pettersen’s practice harmonizes the Vis Medicatrix Naturae, or the healing power of nature with the modern day demands of her patients.  Her practice exemplifies a holistic

Jan Treinen RN BSBA

Jan is a Registered Nurse and Certified Laser Technician, holding a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. She brings her many years of experience in the health care field and personal success as a spa owner to help educate students and share her passion for this industry. Her current work as Western US Clinical Training Manager for one of the largest national laser companies in the country takes her across the US to educate and train on all aspects of light and laser physics, skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, hair reduction and photofacials. She is also certified in all aspects of aesthetic medicine, including microdermabrasion, chemical peels and injectables. Her interest and experience in business start up and marketing, allows students to benefit from her personal and professional experience, as well as her clinical expertise. At National Laser Institute, Jan takes pride in helping all students follow their dreams and achieve their goals.

Sharon a Registered Nurses has been a  Health care professional for over twenty years. She transitioned into the aesthetic arena in 2000, where she discovered her passion. She is a Laser Certified Technician as well as instructor for National Laser Institute. Her expertise is Laser Hair Removal, Photo Facial, and Cellulite Reduction. Sharon has performed countless treatments, as well as managed Medspas in California and Arizona. She is currently a partner in a Arizona medical spa.  "It is my philosophy that each student is a unique individual, and should be treated as such. My goal is to provide students with the knowledge and experience I have acquired, as well as assist each student in achieving confidence with treatment modalities".

Kris Drolshagen, CLT, LE

Kris is known as an expert in the field of Laser physics and practices with Lasers and Light based therapies. Kris’ knowledge of Lasers is so well regarded she has been sought as an expert witness in laser related lawsuits on safety protocols and case reviews. She is a licensed Esthetician, a certified Laser Technician and one of the Lead instructors with National Laser Institute. Kris has been educating on Lasers for over four consecutive years. She has appeared on many television shows in the Phoenix area and has covered such topics as Laser Regulations, Hair Reduction, Photo Facials, and Acne Treatments. Kris is a member of ASLMS (American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery) which promotes excellence in patient care by advancing biomedical application of lasers and other related technologies worldwide. Kris also speaks regularly at Esthetic schools on the topic of lasers and treatments with such machines. She is known for bringing a quick sense of humor to her talks and for being able to make her teachings not only easy to understand, but fun as well.

Day Barnes, CLT, LE

Day has been a Aesthetician for 14yrs and has worked directly with Plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologist, naturopaths and medi spas. She is a Technical trainer and educator and practicioner for Lasers, IPL, Microcurrent, Microderm, dermaplane. She is an importer of European Microcurrent systems and aesthetic product line– specializing in cellular anatomy/physiology and the applications of microcurrent to positively affect ATP in the body for 7yrs. Day Travels nationally and internationally giving lectures and training on composite microcurrent technologies. She has appeared numerous times on “Your Life A-Z” as a Skincare consultant with Heidi Fogelsong.

Shana Yates CMLT, LSO, LE

Shana has over 22 years of experience in the cosmetic/aesthetic/medical industry. She has over 2000 hours of advance diploma certificate courses in paramedical aesthetic training. Shana is the national educator for Ultraceuticals and trained for 3 years for them internationally. She is a board certified instructor and trainer for various equipment modalities and an ARRA approved laser instructor. Many years of industry work include owning and operating a medical spa in California, putting together curriculums for esthetic schools and writing protocols and presentations for various cosmeceutical companies.

Shelley Cook, CLT

Shelley Cook, a California native is now a resident of Cave Creek Arizona, and has lived in the valley for 14 years. In addition to bearing the credentials of Laser Tattoo Specialist and Certified Laser Technician, Shelley is one of the only tattoo removal specialist in the valley that is also a Clinical Laser instructor at the nationally recognized National Laser Institute. On a monthly basis she teaches doctors, nurses, aestheticians and others how to perform safe and effective laser treatments. Shelley continues to teach as she has a passion for education, helping others and staying at the forefront of the industry. Shelley's customers feel like they are in great hands knowing their tattoo removal technician is also a current instructor of laser procedures. Madeleine McVey runs a successful Laser Rental business here in the valley. She has an extensive backround in the Cosmetic world and spent many years as a Surgical Consultant before starting her Laser Company. She has performed thousand of laser procedures and has trained Physicians, Nurses and Estheticians to not only perform these procedures but to implement them into their existing Medical practice.

Kelly Fields

Kelly is a licensed Clinical Aesthetician and certified Laser technician, whom has worked in Medical Aesthetics for seven years. Kelly has worked with multiple Plastic Surgeons, where she developed a wealth of knowledge of all aesthetic procedures. She is certified and trained in Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, Laser Hair Reduction, Photo Facial (IPL), Tattoo Removal, and other laser procedures. Kelly is committed to continually educate herself and others on the latest cutting edge advances in Medical Aesthetics.

Somer Sommer, CLT, LE

Recruited before graduation from the Skin and Makeup Institute of Arizona, Somer Sommer (yes she actually married a gentlemen with the same last name as her first name!) began her second career at the Advanced Laser Clinic in Glendale, AZ one of the nations largest medispa chains as the resident Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Laser Hair Removal Technician. Again recruited, Somer is now the Spa Manager and Lead Aesthetician and Laser Technician at the Rejuvenation Medical Spa, Chandler, AZ. She specializes in laser hair removal treatments for all body areas, treating sun damage and rosacea with IPL providing microdermabrasions, chemical peels, and therapeutic facials.

Seeking to share her passion for the aesthetics profession, and to prove that instructors can be both inspirational and kind, as well as effective, Somer also educates students on how to perform laser hair removal, foto facial,acne treatments and non crystal microdermabrasion(dermal infusion) at the National Laser Institute-Scottsdale, Arizona.

Laura Simonton

Laura Simonton received her Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1997 from Northern Arizona University. Building on that degree, as well as a minor in Business Administration and a CLS certification, she started her laser career in 2005 by founding her own aesthetic laser business. In 2007 she was recruited by Arizona Skin Specialists, a cosmetic Dermatology practice in Phoenix, to be their laser safety officer and Certified Laser Specialist. Being a practitioner as well as an instructor at National Laser Institute, keeps her at the forefront of the industry. Laura has been performing laser services with Nd:YAG and Alexandrite lasers and specializes in hair removal, sun damage minimization as well as collagen stimulating facials. She has

a passion for this field and loves teaching others about the industry, equipment and client care in a fun and energetic environment. Matt Gould

Matthew Gould, Co-Founder of NLI is an attorney who has had a distinguished career in both law and business.  Gould has utilized his entrepreneurial and marketing skills to build several successful companies. In Natural health and beauty based products. In 2004 the partners created Physicians Skin Institute, a full service medical spa; National Laser Institute, a nationally recognized medical aesthetics trade school and Illuma Studios, a full service advertising agency and production studio for both music and film. Gould and Silberman were recently featured as two to watch by Arizona Business Magazine.

David Silberman, MPH

David Silberman brings a strong connection and commitment between NLI and its broader health community. Silberman earned a BA in Politics from University of California, Santa Cruz and a Masters Degree in Public Health from University of California, Los Angeles. In addition, Silberman brings more than 15 years of experience in education and business development to NLI. Silberman has served as Director of Finance and Administration for Slide Ranch, an organization for environmental education, and as Director of an international public health symposium for the prevention of STD's and HIV. Silberman also serves as President of the Board of Directors for The I Have a Dream Foundation in San Francisco, an organization recently featured in May of 2004 on 60 Minutes that provides a cohort underserved youth with long term educational opportunities, after-school enrichment programming and college tuition assistance to those who graduate from high school.
