Course Objectives

Upon completing the National Laser Institute Botox®, Dysport™ training course the participant should show a proficiency in the following course objectives:

  • Recognize the unique characteristics of a cosmetic client.
  • Recognize basic theory and areas of treatment.
  • Describe the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
  • List safety issues and complications and assess indications and contraindications for treatment and proper treatment protocols.
  • Acquire the technical skill to perform the injections.
  • Develop specific communication techniques to enhance the provider relationship in consultations and treatment settings. 

Upon completing the National Laser Institute Dermal Filler Training course the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize the unique characteristics of a cosmetic client and identify patient selection criteria.
  • Describe the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
  • Evaluate the kinds of wrinkles and aging features that can be improved using the various techniques.
  • Explain the pros and cons of hyaluronic acid, collagen and other applications, and interpret when to use each of the different fillers.
  • List safety issues and complications and assess indications and contraindications for treatment and proper treatment protocols.
  • Apply proper preparation for treatments and acquire the technical skill to perform all the injections.
  • Evaluate advances in the field and opportunities for practice expansion.

At the end of the Training the student should be able to:

  • Restate the basics of laser biophysics including: physics of light, wavelength, laser mechanics, energy concepts, pulsing concepts and impact vs spot size.
  • Explain the fundamentals of how a laser interacts with tissue including: tissue heating and heat transfer, absorption, non-linear effects, photochemistry.
  • Report on how different types of light based devices interact with the skin in non-surgical procedures.
  • Assess, list and review common hazards, laser safety and regulations stipulated by National, State and Local regulatory agencies.
  • Observe and demonstrate competency performing laser and intense pulsed light treatments for hair removal.
  • Formulate specific communication techniques to enhance the provider client relationship in consultations and treatment settings.
  • In addition to the objectives above, the student should have observed and should be able to demonstrate capability in the following treatments:
    • Permanent Hair Reduction
    • Intense Pulsed Light Skin Rejuvenation
    • Fractional 1040 Wrinkle Reduction
    • Radio Frequency Skin Tightening
    • Vein Reduction
    • Tattoo Reduction
